rise

The last post here was about as political as I ever tend to publicly verbalize. Michael and I were talking about how much anxiety we must have felt about the election because now in the wake of it all, we have both felt this incredible weight lifted from us. Now I just feel kind of exhausted.

I'm so very proud of Obama and what he accomplished. I'm proud of my country for making the right choice for our collective future. There is a lot of work ahead for us all, and none of it will be easy. Having watched McCain and Palin stir up so much hatred and racism, Obama's job is made that much more difficult, and frighteningly dangerous.

Yesterday I was looking for a map that showed all the results of how each state ended up voting on Tuesday's election, because when I went to bed at 3am, there were still some gray states whose results had not been represented. I came across this website that had several different breakdowns, some that were more representative of actual votes cast than others, using state scale to represent voter weight as well as red blue and shades of purple to designate turnout by districts and counties.

As a lover of maps and of color there was one that really stood out:

In its own abstract way, I thought it was rather beautiful. It also had a rather phoenix rising out of the flames quality about it... this collection of stats, numbers, opinions is representative of our greater desire for a fresh start and a break from the past.

Let's get to work, USA.
